There are more than 1,500 beaches across the state’s 15 coastal counties. The California Coastal Commission has been allowing local officials to make case-by-case decisions, resulting in a mix of restrictions.

Beach use will be restricted over Labor Day weekend, beginning Saturday at 5 a.m. through Monday at 5 p.m. Beaches will be open for active public use Saturday and Sunday afternoon between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. Crossing the beach is permissable to access the ocean for activities such as surfing, paddle-boarding, boogie-boarding, swimming, snorkeling and kayaking.
